AENA Insurance Details

Many netballers will be aware that their membership of the
All England Netball Association includes Civil Liability cover -
but what does this mean? Does it really matter?
Insurance is boring. It will never make 'Who Wants to he a Millionaire?', but it is essential for peace of mind. I hope that it will never become an issue for you personally, but for a few, hopefully very few, it may mean the difference between losing your home and everything you worked for and continuing to lead a normal life.
In an increasingly litigious age, with lawyers offering "no win, no fee" advice, it is all too easy for someone who believes they have been harmed by another to threaten to sue. Often that is all that it is - just a
threat. But that is still very worrying for the person at the receiving end.
Earlier this year, an uninsured amateur footballer was successfully sued for £20,000 for a careless tackle on another player, despite it not being malicious in any way. He will have to sell his home in order to pay the damages and legal costs.
Realising the dangers, in 1995 the AENA Management Committee decided to include Civil Liability cover in the affiliation fees for clubs, counties, regions, registered participants, and young persons groups (schools, youth clubs, colleges and armed services are usually insured through their employers).
